My parents always maintained the family archives, but in retrospect we probably should have spread them around the family—or at least scanned some. But in August 2005 Hurricane Katrina sent them all to the Gulf of Mexico, along with my parents home in Waveland, MS—pretty much ground zero for Katrina. However, somehow my mom’s brother, Chuck, had a handful that he’d gotten when he cleaned out his mother’s house. So below is the only historical archives of Hugh, Polly, Carol, and Gary Smith. Note that when I received these handful of pictures the image with my dad on the beach is when he is my current age: 53.
